Llantysilio Cemetery Regulations

  1. Plan of cemetery
    The Clerk to the Council keeps the plan of the cemetery.
  2. Selection of Grave Spaces
    Applicants must purchase the grave space next in line so that the cemetery may develop in an orderly manner. No grave space can be reserved or purchase in advance.
  3. Notice of Interment
    All notices of interment, construction of vaults/brick graves and the erection of monuments/gravestones shall be made in writing and forwarded to the Clerk to the Council.
  4. Telephone Messages
    The Council shall not be responsible for any misunderstanding that may arise with regard to orders sent by telephone. Confirmation must be received, in writing, not later than 48 hours prior to the interment.
  5. Grave Deeds
    If any second or third interment is to take place, the Deed of Grant determining ownership, or other proof of relationship that satisfies the Council must be produced at the time of giving notice.
  6. Length of Notice
    The length of notice required for booking an interment shall be no later than forty-eight hours prior to the interment, such length of notice not to include Saturdays, Sundays, Good Fridays, Christmas Day and Bank holidays.
  7. Form of Notice of Interment
    All notices of interment must be completed to include the grave number in which it is intended that the interment shall take place, the name, age and last place of abode of the deceased, the type of grave required, the day and hour of the funeral and name and address of the undertaker or funeral director.
  8. Certificate of Death
    The Registration of Death/Crematorium Certificate, or in cases where an inquest has been held, the Certificate of the Coroner must be handed to the attending officer prior to the interment and then immediately forwarded to the Clerk to the Council.
  9. Grave Deed
    On the purchase of a grave, a Deed of Grant shall be issued to the person entitled to hold the Exclusive Right of Burial, and such person shall be recorded in the Cemetery Register as the owner of the same.
  10. Transfer of Exclusive Right of Burial
    In the event of the death of the owner of the Exclusive Right of Burial of a grave the person claiming the entitlement must, within six months of the death, furnish the Council with the proof, which gives him/her the right to the Exclusive Right of Burial. A transfer of the Exclusive Right of Burial will not be deemed valid unless the Clerk to the Council has registered the transfer.
  11. Removal of Remains
    No human remains may be removed after burial except with the consent of the Home Secretary or under Faculty of the Bishop of the Diocese.
  12. Visitors
    • The riding of motorbikes, bicycles etc. are strictly forbidden in the Cemetery.
    • A responsible adult must accompany children under the age of 14.
    • No camping is permitted in the Cemetery.
  13. Regulations as to Memorials
    • Only Memorials of the headstone type will be allowed on graves, and only where Exclusive Right of Burial has been purchased. A small vase sited on the grave will be allowed.
    • An application to erect a headstone must be forwarded to the Clerk to the Council. The application must be accompanied by a figured drawing of the proposed memorial. The mason will not be admitted into the Cemetery without approval from the Council. New memorials should be fitted with a ground anchor system
  14. Removal of Memorials
    Llantysilio Community Council reserves the right to remove, or lay flat, any memorial stone that is deemed to be unsafe.
  15. Specification as to Memorials
    • All memorial stones shall have the number of the grave inscribed on the back.
    • The Council will reject any memorial that will not bear continuous exposure to the weather.
    • Any work to be done, with regard to headstones, must be carried out by a qualified stonemason.
    • The deed owner is responsible for the maintenance/repair of the memorial. The Council may cause the memorial to be removed at the cost of the deed owner.
    • The Council will not be responsible for any injury, or damage done to, or by, any memorial through any cause whatsoever.
    • The overall height of memorials inclusive of base shall not exceed three feet six inches (1.07m).
    • The overall height for memorials inclusive of base for ashes plots shall not exceed two feet six inches (0.69m).
  16. Payment of Fees
    All fees and charges must be made payable to Llantysilio Community Council and forwarded to the Clerk to the Council. A double fee will be charged by the Council for an internment should the deceased not be a permanent resident of Llantysilio - refer to current fee schedule.
  17. Council Rights
    The Council reserves the right to amend all the foregoing Regulations at any time. The Council has sole control of all grave spaces.
