Community Council Budget

The funds to support the activities of the Council come entirely from the community council element of the council tax. There is no additional central funding for community councils. For Llantysilio the charge this year is £17.11 per year for a band D house. This gives Llantysilio Community Council a budget of £3,250 for 2003/2004.

Within Denbighshire our Community charge compares with a low of £4.52 and a high of £39.75 per year for a band D house with annual budgets for other communities of between £1,014 and £330,000.

Recent Community Council Activities

Childrens Play Equipment – Llidiart Anne

For a number of years we have been looking for a means to replace the playground equipment at Llidiat Anne, remove for safety reasons. Denbighshire County Council finally found funds to undertake the work, the design of the playground being a proposal put forward by the Youth Club. It is hoped that the new playground will be a huge asset to the community. community.

Community Council Notice Boards.

The council has obtained funding for the provision of up to six public notice boards at various locations around the community. The total project cost is £12,500.00 but thanks to the funding from Cadwyn Clwyd the cost to the Community will be minimal. The six notice boards, as well as providing space for local notices will also display fixed tourist information in the form of historical and environmental details and local mapping.

Payphone at Pentredwr

We have been able to delay by twelve months BT’s proposal to remove the payphone at Pentredwr. Low usage and the use of mobile phones have been cited by BT as the reason for wanting to remove the phone box.

The Millennium Plaque

We hope to have the slate plinth and plaque installed sometime in the near future.

BT Broadband

The Council is keen to see this available at the Llangollen exchange. Please check out the BT web site at www.bt.com/broadband/ and indicate your interest. The more requests for the service the more chance of it being provided.

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) Outreach Project

The CAB came to the Conquering Hero Community Centre on a number of days. This local access to advice was a huge success and will hopefully be repeated.

Small Towns and Villages Initiative (STVI)

We now have Councillors Mrs D. Arnold and B. Potter representing the Council on the STVI. This could prove to be very important, as the STVI can be the first step in obtaining necessary grant funding for future projects.

Police Surgery

To improve contacts with the community the local police held a very successful a Police Surgery at the Conquering Hero Community Centre in September 2002.

Planning Applications and Highways

We have dealt with numerous Planning Applications, providing local knowledge to the planning officers. We have also dealt with numerous highway problems, some of which are still ongoing. Flooding at Pentredwr has been an ongoing problem for some time and hopefully with the new bridges and stream culvert this serious problem is on the way to being resolved. The last 12 months has seen the funding of building materials to enable David Shiel, Countryside Warden, to repair a wet section of the footpath at the Horseshoe Falls.

Community Policing

The Community Council keeps in contact with the two Community Beat Managers who cover the Llantysilio area, PC1295 Andy Williams and PC1575 Vic Powell. Both have attended our Community Council meetings to report on policing issues, local crime trends and to receive feedback from the Council.

To contact our local police on non urgent matters try 01978 290222 ext 5490 however, as the emphasis is now on getting Officers out and about, there maybe no answer from Llangollen Station. In which case the operator on 290222 or 01492 517171 can take a short message which the officer will receive when next in the station. You can also email to andy.williams@north-wales.police.uk or victor.powell@north-wales.police.uk

Despite not being manned 24 hours, callers to Llangollen Police station are very welcome, however, if a caller finds the station closed, they should use the telephone box positioned by the front door, the control room will take the call and you never know, the local Officer maybe just a short walk away.

To report an incident that you do not feel warrants a 999 call or to contact the North Wales Police for any other matter please call on one of two numbers. Anyone calling with non-urgent business will be connected immediately to an informed individual.

The numbers are:
Welsh Language line on 0845 6071001
English Language line on 0845 6071002.

Please remember that 999 should be used if someone's life or property is in danger and consider 999 if you are witnessing or have just witnessed a crime and evidence may be lost by a delay. Please bear in mind that those people living in rural areas are the eyes and ears of the police and associated agencies and without these facilities the task of policing is that much harder to undertake, let alone complete. Please report all matters which you feel are suspicious or warrant some kind of police attention.
